Upcycled Seahorse

To raise awareness for the Marine Conservation Society’s annual Great British Beach Clean, Sarah was commissioned to make a giant seahorse from waste plastics.

Waste plastics used included popped paddling pools & airbeds, tents, bottle caps, yarn reels, CDs and a hose pipe. Reclaimed wood was used to create the structure and any cable tie ends trimmed off were then used to form the edge of the fin.

Seahorses live in the waters around Poole so it was lovely to draw attention to such a beautiful creature.

Children from a local Poole primary school took part in the beach clean for the day and also made baby turtles made from waste materials including plastic bottles and recycled card. Fireman Sam also arrived to help the children with the beach clean. There’s a new character in Pontypandy called Jodie who is a marine biologist, hence why Fireman Sam came along to lend a hand with the clean up.

The children did a fantastic job of cleaning the beach and they named our lovely sea creature, Seacil. Seacil the Seahorse will now live at Marine Conservation Society HQ and will be exhibited at their various events in the future.
