sculpture of lady godiva on horseback made from recycled plastic

Lady Godiva

Sarah was commissioned by Coventry Building Society to bring their logo and identity to life through a large-scale recycled eco sculpture. The result is a contemporary reimagining of Lady Godiva, crafted from around 250kg of recycled plastic and formed into varying shades of blue panels cut into the bold silhouette of Lady Godiva on horseback.

Staff at Coventry Building Society played a vital role in the making of the piece by collecting thousands of plastic bottle tops. These were carefully colour-sorted, shredded and combined with recycled plastic granules. The mixture was heated and pressed into beautiful sheets, creating a palette of deep and speckled blues that echo the organisation’s logo and identity. Sarah then worked with these handmade sheets carefully assembling them into her dynamic, contemporary design.

Installed in the wildflower meadow at the Society’s head office, the sculpture stands as both a landmark and a symbol — celebrating Coventry’s history while showing the beauty and potential of transforming waste into art.
